This might help people who bought Digihome and other badged Freeview hard disk PVR boxes based on the Vestel chipset which didn't update after the switchover (such as from Argos, Currys etc) My Digihome PVR 160 wouldn't scan for all new channels after the analogue switchover and I was going to dump it and get a new one. However, I have finally managed to up date it.

The over air updates had been discontinued so this has to be done manually. It was fairly tortuous as it involved various sticking points such as installing a Serial USB converter which wouldn't fit the PVR as the converter had retaining nuts which couldn't be removed. However the bolts on the PVR RS232 socket came off the PVR casing. I had to download the appropriate.bin update file for my model from and run HyperTerminal.but this isn't included in Vista, so I had to download this.

The hardest thing was getting HyperTerminal to 'talk' to the PVR. The converter defaults to Com9, and I finally found out that after many times of hitting send on the.bin file in HyperTerminal and getting 'no response from receiver', you had to hold the power button in on the PVR to start the transfer. Following the file transfer and PVR reboot and rescan, all the channels have now appeared! I'll happily talk anyone through the finer points if it helps them or friends/relatives revive discarded PVRs!! Vigman Rick 06:20.

It's a pity that there isn't a similar upgrade for the Digifusion FVRT 145's defunct EPG.
